The end purpose is to generate, on an annual basis, a publication which will feature the profiles of 50 of the most promising Nordic cleantech companies. The publication will build on the companies featured, to more generally characterise and showcase the Nordic region as a hotbed of innovation in the field of cleantech. The target audience is all those interested in cleantech innovation and investment. Worldwide. The purpose is to highlight the cleantech innovation in the Nordic region.

The Nordic Cleantech 50 list will be unveiled on April 30 at the European Cleantech Forum in Copenhagen, Europe's largest gathering of cleantech investors and professionals - Read more about the event. Also note that a few companies from the final list of 50 will be invited to present at the event.

How to participate?

Nordic cleantech start-up and growth companies wishing to be considered can nominate themselves by filling in an online form. The application deadline is March 2. Early applications are however strongly recommended to maximise chances of being selected as a speaking company at the European Cleantech Forum on April 30 in Copenhagen.

Why participate?

  • Raise your company's profile, through the Nordic 50 and/or at the largest European annual clean technology meeting, April 28-30 2009
  • Catch the attention of leading players in cleantech innovation and investment, in the Nordic region, Europe, US, and worldwide.

Selection criteria

To qualify for consideration, a candidate cleantech company must be unlisted and from the Nordic region (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden). To build the final list of 50, companies will be evaluated for their potential and likelihood to achieve high-growth and high market impact, using the following main criteria:

  • The Innovation: Problem it solves; Uniqueness; Sustainability of the advantage; etc.
  • The Market: Accessibility; Size; Growth dynamics, Accessibility / barriers to entry, etc.
  • The Ability to Execute: Finances; Team competences; Connections and networks, etc.

It is important to note that the list will not rank the 50 in order, and will, to the degree possible, consist of a variety of cleantech segments and growth stages across the Nordic countries.
